I had the opportunity to shoot several of Bristol/Bath’s burlesque stars over the last week. First up were Geisha Go Disco and Tuesday Laveau and then Miss Lou-Leigh Blue, who are all making waves on the UK circuit.
For burlesque promo I often use a Lastolite Hilite background, which makes it easy to create a ‘hi-key’ white background, aiming for a bright and happy look echoing classic pinup styles of Vargas, although I’ll sometimes use a dark background instead. The images are often used on flyers and bill posters so the plain background makes it easy for the images to be incorporated into designs.
Miss Lou-Leigh blue, when not pleasing audiences with innovative routines, is a talented photographer and collector of beautiful vintage cameras. She was about to teach a class on how to make burlesque fascinators and we photographed one design incorporating a old Kodak camera and bits of 35mm film!
